The saddle lift operation lifts the buttocks crease upward and inward toward the middle. The incision is placed near the midline. Some skin tissue is removed and the skin is drawn together, lifting the medial thigh, as well as the buttocks crease. This procedure can be performed under local anesthesi as an outpatient, and is best suited to those patients who have loose skin around their posterior and medial thighs. The procedure is often done in conjunction with liposuction, and in those cases some significant improvements are possible. Even then, however, this is not a weight reduction procedure but one to tighten the saddlebag and posterior area.

There will be some discomfort following the procedure for several days as the incisions heal. This can usually be controlled with medication. The sutures will dissolve in a few days. Some swelling is to be expected, but this should subside in a few days. It is necessary to wear a light compression garment for two or three weeks following surgery. Generally, it will be necessary to miss about a week of work, and heavy activity should be avoided for a couple of additional weeks.

There are only a few possible complications from this procedure. Because of the location of this operation, wound infection is a possibility. This can be controlled, if it occurs, with appropriate medication. Any asymmetry can usually be corrected by a touch-up procedure.
